How to Wear

A hair ornament should work with the structure of the hairstyle, not fight against it. Start with a secure twist, bun or section of hair, then use the piece to hold that shape in place.

The exact result depends on your hair length, density, texture and the ornament you choose.

Hair sticks

  1. Gather the hair into a twist or bun.
  2. Insert the stick through one side of the hairstyle.
  3. Pass it under a section of hair close to the scalp.
  4. Bring the point back through the opposite side of the twist.

The stick should pass through both the hairstyle and a small section of hair underneath it. This creates the tension that holds the shape.

Do not force or bend the stick. If the hairstyle feels unstable, rebuild the twist with more tension before inserting it again.

U-pins

  1. Form a bun or folded twist.
  2. Place the decorated part where you want it to sit.
  3. Insert the ends away from the centre of the hairstyle.
  4. Turn the pin back towards the bun and slide it underneath.

This change of direction helps anchor the pin instead of simply pushing it straight through the hair.

For additional hold, use the U-pin with a discreet elastic or ordinary hairpins underneath the hairstyle.

Barrettes

Open the mechanism fully before placing the barrette.

Gather only the amount of hair that fits naturally inside the clasp. Pressing too much hair into the mechanism may weaken the hold or place unnecessary strain on the barrette.

Close it by pressing on the functional parts of the clasp, not on the decorative surface.

Claw clips

Gather the hair into a twist and hold it against the head. Open the clip using its handles, position the teeth around the twist and release it slowly.

Make sure the teeth sit against the hair rather than directly against the scalp.

The clip should close without excessive pressure. If it does not, reduce the amount of hair or adjust the hairstyle.

Finding the right hold

A secure hairstyle should feel stable without pulling sharply at the scalp.

If the ornament slips:

  • tighten the initial twist;
  • reduce or redistribute the amount of hair;
  • add texture with a discreet elastic or hairpins;
  • reposition the ornament closer to the base of the hairstyle.

If the piece feels heavy or uncomfortable, remove it and adjust the placement.
